Snooze Button vs. Sunrise: Which is the Best Start to Your Day?

Good morning, everyone!

Have you ever dreamt of being able to sleep in, wondering how amazing life would be if you could wake up with a fresh mind and plenty of rest? Well, me too. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve laid in bed, wishing I could just stay there forever—cozy, warm, with no responsibility to rush anywhere. Sounds perfect, right? Well, except for the chickens and roosters, I guess. But is it really all that amazing?

I used to be someone who thought the best mornings started with hitting snooze—again and again. I’d convince myself that a little extra sleep would somehow make the day easier. But one time, I woke up late—really late—and realized how quickly the morning can spiral into chaos when you miss that peaceful, slow start. It wasn’t just the time I lost; it was the panic that settled in when I realized how behind I was on everything. And honestly? It didn’t feel good. That day felt rushed, and overwhelming, and I couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that I’d missed something important. That’s when it hit me—what if waking up earlier, giving myself that time to breathe before the world rushed in, could actually change things?

Waking up when the sky is still painted in soft pinks and golds, and the world is quiet, might actually be more beneficial than you think. Suddenly, you have the time to breathe, to think, to take your morning at your own pace. It’s like the world slows down for just a bit, allowing you to catch up with yourself. And in those moments, you realize: you have more time, more energy, and maybe—just maybe—you can actually enjoy the day instead of rushing through it. But we all know that sleep is essential too. It’s not just about the time you gain in the morning, but how your mind and body recharge at night, giving you the peace of mind you need to feel good about the day ahead.

Something that’s always stood out to me is how much we tend to forget about the people who matter most. I’ve learned that quality time with your family, especially parents, is something people overlook far too often. It’s not just about getting a little extra sleep; it’s about connecting with your loved ones when things are calm, before the world takes over. There’s a comfort in knowing you’ve spent time with the people who care about you and can help you feel grounded. Prioritizing mornings, instead of rushing through them, gives you that chance to breathe—and honestly, that time with family makes everything else feel easier. It’s like a reset button for your brain.

But then, there’s the flip side: sometimes, we don’t get that time with family. And that’s okay, too. Sleep, when done right, gives you peace of mind. Even if you don’t get to have a heart-to-heart with your parents or friends, you still get the benefit of being fully rested, which helps you approach everything with a fresh mindset and energy. And that’s something that can’t be overlooked either.

So, my message to you today is: whether you decide to cozy up in bed or wake up early, both choices have their pros and cons, and neither is wrong. The important thing is doing what works best for you. The world would be pretty boring if everyone had the same routine or perspective, wouldn’t it? Just remember to prioritize your mental and physical health before anything else.

  1. This is a great one. I'm also guilty of hitting the snooze button continuously but it never helps. Just about two days ago, I hit snooze and woke up 15 minutes late. No time to meditate, on anything. So as easy as it is to always hit snooze, discipline really matters. Time for plenty of sleep will always come.

    1. Thanks, Sarah! I agree, hitting snooze can feel great in the moment, but it often disrupts the flow of the morning. That said, I think there's value in listening to our bodies too, it’s all about finding the right balance. What helps you avoid hitting snooze? As most of us may be curious and find it difficult to do.

  2. I really resonate with your thoughts on mornings and the importance of balance. I’m definitely more of a night owl, but I’ve been trying to embrace those early mornings to find that quiet time. It’s amazing how a little stillness can set the tone for the entire day. Here’s to finding what works best for each of us! 😊
